Gbi Kpoeta is approximately 215 km from the Greater Accra region, it is among the nine towns that constitute the Gbi-dzigbe traditional area, in the Volta region of Ghana. Kpoeta is about 2.5km from Hohoe, nevertheless, infrastructural developments and expansion works have almost obliterated the boundary between the two towns. The town’s main water body is the Dayi River which is present in almost all the Gbidzigbe towns.

Relief and drainage

The Municipality has part of the Akwapim-Togo ranges extending beyond the country’s
eastern boundary all the way to Western Nigeria. These ranges are the eastern part of the
Voltarian basin, aligning on the southwest and northeast axis. The terrain in the Municipality is generally undulating. The low-lying areas, some of which are swampy average 456.4 meters above sea level, and are used for rice cultivation. They include Kitikpa and Blave.

Climate

The Municipality lies in the wet semi-equatorial climatic zone. Annual rainfall is between
1,016mm- 1,210mm. There is 4-5months dry season between November and April. The
pattern of the rainy season has become highly unpredictable. The hitherto well defined two
peaks of rainfall have almost merged. The rains start in late April and ends in October.
Temperatures are high throughout the year and range from 26ºC in the coolest months to
about 32ºC in the hottest months.

Vegetation

The Municipality falls within the forest-savannah transitional ecological zone. The forest
area is at the eastern side of the town. Several valuable trees in the forest include Wawa, obeche, odum and mahogany. most of the western plains are occupied by savannah woodlands and tall grasses.

Festival

Gbidukor za or festival is celebrated in late November or early December between Gbidzigbe and Gbinyigbe

Economy

The majority of the population in the town are engaged in petty trade, crop farming
and livestock keeping.

Tourism

The Municipality has untapped tourism potential capable of transforming its economy, as
well as its overall contribution to national income when fully developed. The beautiful
landscapes, clean environment, and potential eco-tourism sites make it a hot-bed for future tourism development in the country. Notable among these are lofty mountains
blending with low green plains.
